Heather, a very good friend of mine on the internet sent me this message...

"I shall be lighting a candle in Valencia Cathedral for your Niece Sue tomorrow and posting a prayer for her, please will you tell her, I am sure she will find that a comfort."

"Hello Lizzy, just got in from our little holiday and would like you to tell Sue that she had a candle lit in the Cathedral in Valencia and that her name was put onto the list for prayers for the sick. She is desperately ill and I pray she is going to gain some strength for treatment. If not I pray she has pain free palliative care. God Bless her."

"The Fallas in Vallencia is a 24 hour activity for 4 days so we have had little sleep, will send some photos of around the Cathedral and the decorated Virgin. Thousands of ladies carry flowers for 2 whole days and night and the wooden frame is packed with flowers and all the other huge displays. The air was heavy with the scent of the flowers. Sorry that I cannot show you her candles, there was one each day we were there, as I say I find it offensive the taking of photographs inside any religious building."

This picture is the wooden frame of the Virgin and Christ child, before the flowers are pressed in.

And these are just a few of the thousands of ladies who carry the flowers all through the day and night to decorate the statue. Some carry children and tiny babies. One baby was only 4 days old.

Men run up and down the frame pressing the flowers into the frame, and at last it is finished. There is a Solemn Mass to dedicate the work.

These ladies have just handed over their flower offering. They have walked for miles through the streets in procession and the emotions often break and as they hand their flowers they are reduced to tears, some just look so happy.

These 2 children are aged 2 and the little boy aged 3, their Mummy had taken them both in a double buggy in the procession to take her offering, I asked if I could have my photograph taken with them and she said certainly,

Yes Sue has four candles, I prayed for her and also filled a prayer request, I just wrote, Please pray for Sue in Canada, who is gravely ill.

Dear Lizzy, Frances has told me that your Niece Sue has passed away. Please accept and pass on my most sincere condolences to your sister, her Mum. May she rest in peace.xx

Heather lit 4 candles for Sue...One every day she was there...

Thank you Heather for caring so deeply, even though you did not know Sue xxxxx

The Fallas Festival

The Fallas Festival
Another important event is the Ofrenda de Flores a la Virgen de los Desamparados, a beautiful ceremony every March 17 and 18, that honours Valencia's patron Virgin. Thousands of Falleras and Falleros arrive to the city from every corner of the Comunitat (Valencia State) and take the streets wearing traditional costumes and dancing to their neighbourhood or village bands as they wend their way to the Plaza de la Virgen to offer bouquets to the giant image of the Virgin.

Re:Prayers and Candles for Sue from Heather in Spain (an internet friend of mine)

I was so sorry to hear of the death of Sue, and offer my most sincere condolences to her family and friends.
Sue was taken from you at such a young age and you will have many mixed feelings at the moment regarding her passing. I hope that in time you can remember Sue without remembering her pain and suffering first, but remember the happier memories you have of her life, and of the good times you shared with her.
Our short holiday in Valencia was a wonderful few days, very religious in some parts mixed with a lot of celebration. We are now back home in Malaga and last Friday, the 28th March I visited our own Cathedral and lit a candle in memory of Sue, a lady I never met, but heard about from my dear Internet friend Lizzy.
May she now rest in Peace.
From Heather, Malaga, Spain 04/04/2014.
